The Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds implies that the viewfinder will be divided into three parts on an image either horizontally or vertically. From different parts of the image or photo, they will contain some important message which are about the theme or title. Lines are apply to the image which divide into three parts in both horizontally and vertically.

Mobile artwork by Goro Fujita

The above mobile artwork which designed by Japanese animator, Goro Fujita, the main character is the Robot in red colour, which is the blue dot at the right bottom corner. I put red lines on the image which implies the rule of thirds. This showed that the main focus is at that part which contains the main important character.

My interaction project II

As my target/ audience of this project is set for children, so I use cartoons and fairy tales to make the illustration. I expect to create two characters at the very beginning, but then I figured out that if creating two characters while the storyline are the same, then it would be no meaning to choose different character. That's why I just create one character at last.

I finally create characters from fairy tales, like Genie, Snow White and Pinocchio. As these characters are familiar by the children, so this would guide them to use the website.

The problem that I'm facing now is that maybe there are not enough story line until the end. I have to make this episodic, just like what my tutor Simon said.
I may rearrange and improve that by adding more scenes and make it more episodic.

My interaction project

The first project is about interaction which basically about creating a website and create different choices to others to make decisions.
My idea is to make a Game which is about making the decision of choosing the 'truth' or the 'lie'.
I came up with this idea is because we have to decide what we should believe everyday and we may have to tell lies and truth sometimes.
Here are some brain storming charts.

I will create two characters and let people to choose and in the journey, the character will meet different characters from the fairy tales. Such as the three little pigs, the red riding hood and so on. And they will give different directions for you and you will have to decide they are telling you the truth or lies.
Here is the first page of the web which is choosing characters.

My Design Process

My last piece of creative work is just my own design work, not school work.
It is a wallpaper / poster design. I'm inspired by the character 'Aliens' in Toy story. They always said," Ohhhh!! The claw!" Which is really funny and impressed me.
I simply want to make a design which is positive and encouraging. And so, I have a thought that is the shot of the Alien finally reaches 'the claw'. This thought just simply brings out the message that 'Maybe someday Alien could reach the claw! What about you?' Which reflect that we could success if we didn't forget our target.
I first draw a draft on paper then scan into my computer and use photoshop to modify it.

The draft was just combining the 'Alien' with the 'Claw' which is my basic idea.
Then I scanned it into my computer and used photoshop to modify and adding colours.
I did not draw a crowd of aliens because it may be too many things on the design and cannot focus on one character. Therefore I just drew one 'Alien' in the design.

As the Moon cake festival(one of the Chinese festival) was coming at that time I design this work, so the background of it was set to be in the sky and a big moon behind. Then I uploaded my work on facebook and share it to my friends.
One of my friends said she loves the design not just because of the 'Alien', and the whole idea which encourage people to chase with their dreams.
The final work is as follow.

I always look back of my previous work or others work for inspiration, not just for improvement and for developing a whole new design idea.

white board animation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7a4gPuEwVS4

Before the first week of our lesson, we made a white board animation in a group of four.
I'm in the group with Zoe, Krishna and Zane.
We had fun in this activity. Our idea is changing the shape to a mouth and a strawberry.
I think we had a great chance to experience the basic white board animation and we can develop more creative ideas next time.
